Energy2market continues to hold pole position in biomass direct marketing

The current direct marketing survey conducted by the trade magazine Energie & Management (E & M) for the first half of 2022 once again confirms the leading role of Energy2market GmbH (e2m) in biomass direct marketing. In its industry ranking, the magazine confirms that the Leipzig-based energy aggregator has “held pole position in the marketing of biomass and biogas for years”.

With 1,892 MW of installed biogas capacity alone, e2m has once again defended its market leadership in this segment. This is backed by over 3,800 decentralized technical units in the biogas sector alone, which are controlled and bundled via the company’s own virtual power plant (VPP). With over 5,000 decentralized generation plants from renewable producers, electricity storage systems and consumers, e2m’s total portfolio amounts to 2,924 MW – including wind power with 439 MW and photovoltaics with 409 MW. The company was already ahead in the biomass segment in the first E & M direct marketing survey in 2013.

Leading in the storage business area

With 90 MW of capacity in the storage business field, e2m is also the leader here. In its industry barometer for 2021 as a whole, the trade journal E & M had already stated that e2m was one of “only two companies” with significant capacity in the field of battery storage marketing. Here too, e2m is convinced that it has by no means reached the end of the road. In particular, the Leipzig-based company is hoping for sustainable growth from product approaches for battery storage that include other marketing options in addition to the marketing of Frequency Containment Reserve. The fact that this hope is not unfounded is shown not only by pure storage projects but also by the increasing number of system combinations of PV systems and storage systems that have been won as part of the so-called innovation tender for the marketing of electricity and flexibility.

Brief study: Biogas can cover almost half of electricity production from gas-fired power plants

The importance of biogas, particularly against the backdrop of the current crisis on the energy markets, is also shown by the results of a short study recently published by e2m on the role of biogas for a climate-neutral, 100% renewable electricity system in 2035, which has received widespread media coverage.

According to the study, around 15% of electricity generation from natural gas could be replaced. By stepping up efforts to generate electricity flexibly, up to 46% – almost half – of the electricity currently generated by gas-fired power plants could be covered by biogas if the current level of electricity generation is maintained.
