Agrar GmbH Auligk Biogas Plants

Case study Auligk

About Agrar GmbH Auligk

Agrar GmbH Auligk is a traditional mixed-farming operation that combines livestock and crop production. The company raises approximately 2,000 dairy cows on 2,500 hectares of land and, in addition to milk, grain, and animal feed, also produces green electricity from its own biogas plant and a smaller solar power system. Rico Käßner has been working at the farm for about 20 years; he learned the trade here and has been part of the management team for more than two years. Since then, he has been continuously expanding the farm’s renewable energy capacity; the first biogas plant was installed at the farm more than 15 years ago. He has been working closely with e2m since early 2024 to optimize the profitability of his facilities, counter rising costs, and recapitalize investments.

A Quick Question

Mr. Käßner, how did you come to work at e2m?

I first heard about Energy2market from a friend who’s into biogas. We talked about how I wanted to get the most out of my plants, and he recommended e2m to me as a reliable direct marketer for our electricity.

How does the collaboration work, and who is responsible for what?

The biogas plant is controlled through various levels of hierarchy. At the very top of the hierarchy is e2m. To use it, however, we have to set the plant to automatic mode and let it run on its own. But if I override anything or intervene, it usually comes at the expense of our additional revenue. That’s why I avoid it whenever possible. But there’s still the scenario where even a motor doesn’t run the way it’s supposed to. If I have a breakdown or if our biogas in storage isn’t enough for the forecasted amount, then I have to override the plant.

What do you consider to be the biggest advantage of working with e2m?

The biggest advantage is that you earn more money and spend less time on marketing. The additional revenue offsets the ever-rising costs of specialized contractors, wages, and everything else, and makes new investments possible—for example, in new engines for the plant.

After nearly a year, what are your impressions of e2m?

The folks at e2m are very skilled at what they do. We have a very strong relationship of trust, and I actually rely on them completely. The people at e2m are very experienced and know what they’re doing. The fact is, e2m benefits from the additional revenue just as much as we do. We have a fair profit-sharing arrangement, which is why we’re all interested in getting the most out of our investment.

“So, working together saves me a lot of time—I spend about five to ten minutes every day on it; that’s really all it takes, and even then, it’s just to make sure everything is working the way we agreed it would. Yes, I get the impression at e2m that there are very capable people working there who know exactly what they’re doing. That really won me over.”
